Avoiding Over-Discharge: A Key to LiFePO4 Battery Health

Over-discharging (draining the battery below its safe voltage) can harm LiFePO4 cells. Here’s how to prevent it:

  • Set a Low-Voltage Cutoff: Configure your system to disconnect the battery at around 2.5V per cell (or as per manufacturer specs).
  • Monitor Battery Levels: Use a battery monitor to track state of charge (SOC) and avoid deep discharges.
  • Recharge Promptly After Use: Don’t leave the battery at a low charge for long periods.
  • Use a BMS with Protection: A good Battery Management System will prevent over-discharge automatically.

By following these steps, you’ll protect your battery from premature degradation.
