Common OPzV Battery Failures and Troubleshooting

Despite their reliability, OPzV batteries can experience issues if not maintained properly. Here are common problems and solutions:

1. Sulfation

  • Cause: Undercharging or long-term storage without charge.
  • Solution: Apply an equalization charge (controlled overcharge) to break sulfate crystals.

2. Dry-Out (Electrolyte Loss)

  • Cause: Overcharging or high ambient temperatures.
  • Solution: Monitor charging voltage and ensure proper ventilation.

3. Capacity Loss

  • Cause: Repeated deep discharges or aging.
  • Solution: Perform a capacity test and replace if capacity drops below 80%.

4. Terminal Corrosion

  • Cause: Acid leakage or moisture exposure.
  • Solution: Clean terminals with a baking soda solution and apply anti-corrosion gel.

Regular inspections prevent most of these issues.
