Why Can’t Electrolyte Be Added to AGM Batteries?

Adding electrolyte to AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries isn’t recommended because AGM batteries are sealed units designed to be maintenance-free. The electrolyte is already absorbed into the glass mat separators within the battery, hence the name AGM. Introducing additional electrolyte can disrupt the delicate balance within the battery and potentially damage it. AGM batteries rely on precise construction and chemistry to function optimally, so altering their electrolyte content can have adverse effects on their performance and lifespan. It’s like trying to add extra ingredients to a recipe that’s already perfectly balanced—the end result might not be the ultimate dish you were hoping for.
